Storage Botanybay Health and Safety Policy
Storage Botanybay is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all employees, customers, contractors and visitors. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our objectives, responsibilities and working practices to prevent injury, ill health and damage to property during storage and removal activities.
Our Health and Safety Commitment
We recognise that effective health and safety management is essential to the success of our storage and removals services. We aim to maintain high standards of safety across all premises, vehicles and work locations, including customers’ homes, businesses and storage facilities.
We will continuously review our procedures to ensure they remain suitable for the handling, lifting, packing, loading, transport and storage of goods, and that risks are reduced as far as is reasonably practicable.

Storage Botanybay will:
Promote a positive health and safety culture where safe working is integral to all activities.
Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and recognised industry standards for storage and removals.
Identify hazards, assess risks and implement effective control measures.
Provide appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision to staff and contractors.
Ensure that vehicles, equipment and storage areas are safe, well maintained and suitable for their intended use.
Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to prevent recurrence and improve our systems.

Regularly reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of work for storage units, loading areas and removal operations.
Ensuring that staff understand their duties and are competent to carry them out safely.
Monitoring compliance with health and safety procedures and taking corrective action where needed.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions.
Follow all safety instructions, procedures and training provided by the company.
Use vehicles, equipment and personal protective equipment correctly and report any defects immediately.
Report accidents, incidents, near misses and any health and safety concerns to management without delay.
Cooperate with management to ensure that legal and company health and safety requirements are met.
Contractors and Visitors
Contractors working on our premises must comply with this policy and any site-specific safety rules. Visitors must follow the instructions of Storage Botanybay staff and must not enter restricted or operational areas without authorisation and supervision.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
We conduct risk assessments for all significant hazards associated with our storage and removal operations, including manual handling, vehicle movements, working at height, use of lifting equipment, trips and slips, and the handling of customer property.
Safe systems of work are developed based on these assessments and are communicated to employees through training and supervision. These systems are reviewed regularly or following incidents, changes to work practices or introduction of new equipment.
Manual Handling and Lifting Operations
Manual handling is a core activity in the storage and removals sector. Storage Botanybay takes specific steps to minimise the risks of strain, musculoskeletal injury and accidents during lifting and carrying, including:
Assessing loads before lifting and planning the task, route and destination.
Providing training in safe manual handling techniques.
Using mechanical aids where appropriate, such as trolleys, dollies and lifting devices.
Encouraging team lifts for heavy, awkward or bulky items.
Ensuring that access routes, ramps and vehicle loading areas are kept clear and in good condition.
Vehicles, Driving and Loading
Our vehicles are essential for removal and storage transport services and are maintained to high safety standards. We will:
Ensure that all vehicles are regularly inspected, serviced and maintained.
Ensure drivers are competent, appropriately licensed and familiar with safe loading and driving practices.
Secure loads correctly to prevent movement or damage during transit, using suitable restraints and packing materials.
Plan loading and unloading to minimise reversing, congestion and interaction between vehicles and pedestrians.
Promote safe driving behaviour, including adherence to traffic laws, speed limits and safe parking procedures.
Storage Facilities and Premises Safety
We aim to provide safe, clean and orderly storage environments. This includes:
Maintaining good housekeeping throughout storage units, corridors and loading bays.
Keeping emergency exits, access routes and fire equipment unobstructed.
Providing adequate lighting in operational and customer-access areas.
Implementing appropriate security measures to protect people and property.
Undertaking periodic inspections of racking, stacking arrangements and structural features.
Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures
We maintain fire safety arrangements appropriate to our premises and activities. This includes:
Providing and maintaining suitable fire detection and firefighting equipment.
Ensuring clear emergency evacuation routes and assembly points.
Displaying fire safety information and instructions.
Training staff in emergency procedures, including evacuation and assisting customers or visitors.
Conducting periodic drills and reviewing findings to improve our response.
Training, Information and Supervision
Storage Botanybay provides health and safety training relevant to each role, including induction training, manual handling, safe operation of equipment, vehicle safety and emergency procedures.
Information on hazards and safe practices is communicated through briefings, signage and written procedures. Supervisors monitor work activities to ensure that safe methods are followed and to address unsafe behaviour promptly.
Accident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported as soon as possible. We keep appropriate records and investigate events to determine root causes and implement corrective actions. Lessons learned are shared where relevant to prevent recurrence and improve safety performance.
Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, industry best practice and our own operations. Employee feedback and suggestions for improving health and safety are encouraged and will be considered as part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.
By working together and following this policy, Storage Botanybay aims to ensure that all storage and removal activities are carried out safely and responsibly, protecting people, property and the reputation of our business.
